Monday, 01 August 2011 |
The second series of the FIDE Women Grand Prix was confirmed by the FIDE Presidential Board in Al Ain in May 2011.
It hosts the current World Champion, Hou Yifa from China as well as 3 former Women World Champions : Zhu Chen (Qatar), Antoaneta Stefanova (BLG) and Alexandra Kosteniuk (RUS).
Furthermore, 11 out of the 18 players hold FIDE's highest title - Grand Master whereas for a few others, they will probably get this coveted title during the next few months.
11 of the participants played in the first series and this year we see the addition of Nadezhda Kosintseva from Russia, Ana Muzychuk representing Slovenia, Katrina Lahno from Ukraine and Viktoria Cmilyte from Lithuania just to mention some of the 2500+ players who will battle it out over the six events.
Once again, we have a wide representation of cities, with Russia organising the lion share showing their full commitment to the promotion of Women's Chess as also China, Armenia and Turkey reconfirmed their commitment to the same objective.
Each event will be exceptionally strong and we can look forward to some action-filled chess!
