As the first ever Grandmaster from Kalmykia, Inarkiev was chosen to be the nominated played from this host city, where in August 2009 the 5th tournament in this first Grand Prix Series will be held.
Ernesto Inarkiev was born December 9, 1985 in Osh, Kyrgyzstan. He was named after Ernesto "Che" Guevara. National master from 1997, Inarkiev scored some nice results in 1999, when he became Champion of Asia in the boys under-16 section, and Champion (men's section) of Kyrgyzstan.
In 2000 he was awarded the IM title and in the same year he moved to Kalmykia. He won the European Youth Championship under-16 in 2001 and was awarded the GM title in 2002.
In the same year Inarkiev became Champion of Russia in the juniors under-20 section. In 2004 he won the Championship of Kalmykia.
In 2005 Inarkiev moved to Moscow in 2005, where he started studying at the Russian State Social University. He started to play for the Tomsk-400 team, which won the Russian Team Championship in 2004, 2005 and 2007. They also won the Europan Club Cup in 2005 and 2006.
In 2006, Inarkiev achieved world fame instantly by winning the Russian Championship First League with 6.5/9, the qualification tournament for the Russian Super Final. There he won the bronze medal.
At the December 2007 World Cup in Khanty-Manskiysk, Inarkiev beat Peralta and Vallejo Pons but then lost to Aronian.
At the Moscow Open in February 2008, Inarkiev seemed to be cruising to victory, winning 7 games in a row, but he lost the decisive (marathon) last-round game against Artyom Timofeev in the final round.
Inarkiev is a benevolent person, but behind the chess board he can be very aggressive. He likes combinative chess, is always ready to take risks and battle to the end in every game.
